AnswerFirst pricing: understand seconds and usage rates

AnswerFirst pricing combines a $30 monthly base with published rates of $1.60–$1.95 per minute according to usage. Its live answering model and one-second measurement deserve a different review from a prepaid minute bundle. Revo, a competing provider, checked the official pages on October 27, 2026; this is a documentary comparison, not a service test, rating or customer quote.

Separate the base charge from the usage charge

The pricing page presents pay-as-you-go live answering, without a minimum usage commitment to a minute plan, and states that qualifying rates decrease automatically as usage grows. “No overage fees” does not make the variable usage charge disappear.

Treat a budget as a base component plus billable activity under the applicable rate schedule, then any other applicable charges. Ask for the actual schedule before assigning a rate to a forecast. The reviewed public page does not disclose numerical bracket thresholds or establish whether a qualifying rate applies to all usage or to separate bands.

Use seconds correctly in a conditional calculation

AnswerFirst advertises one-second billing rather than rounding calls up to a full minute. The published price range is dollars per minute, not dollars per second. Preserve that distinction when building a worksheet.

Original fictional case: suppose 120 calls each produce exactly 75 billable seconds. That is 9,000 seconds, or 150 minutes. If the applicable offer used a single rate for those minutes, the following arithmetic would result. Neither endpoint is a verified bracket for 150 minutes.

Hypothetical rate applied to the same 150 minutesUsage arithmeticPlus $30 base
$1.60 per minute150 × $1.60 = $240$270
$1.95 per minute150 × $1.95 = $292.50$322.50

Resolve the written terms before calling that a quote

The arithmetic excludes taxes, supplemental services and other applicable charges. It also assumes the billable seconds are known. It is not a predicted invoice or a claim that every answered call produces only conversation-time charges.

The pricing FAQ says complex customization can attract a one-time fee; one forwarding number is included and additional forwarding numbers are listed at $3 monthly each. Separately, the terms refer to the Service Plan and Rate Schedule, setup and supplemental fees, applicable taxes and surcharges, and one-second usage subject to plan minimums.

Have the provider reconcile the public offer with the specific proposal you would accept. Record the answer rather than selecting whichever wording gives the lowest spreadsheet total. This review did not submit a lead form to obtain the detailed pricing packet.

Ask these questions about the rate function

For a seasonal home-service office, a low-volume month and a storm-driven spike can be materially different workloads. Give the provider both scenarios using the same call-handling instructions, then request an itemized explanation.

  • Which usage levels trigger each rate, and which billing period determines qualification?
  • Does one qualifying rate apply to all usage, or are charges calculated across bands?
  • Which activities start and stop the billable clock, including transfers and after-call work?
  • Do any minimums, setup items or supplemental charges apply to this exact account?
  • How are taxes and surcharges shown, and what written terms govern cancellation and the final bill?

Evaluate the people and the handoff, not only the timer

AnswerFirst explicitly offers live, U.S.-based receptionists for home-service businesses. For an owner who wants people answering, that is a relevant service distinction—not a reason to compare its minute directly with an AI allowance as though the purchases were identical.

Prepare an original demonstration brief with a normal inquiry, a caller changing an existing request and a failed attempt to reach your staff. Define the desired outcome for each: information captured, request assigned or supported appointment confirmed. Ask to inspect the resulting office record. These are suggested evaluation cases, not calls we placed or outcomes we observed.

Put Revo on a separate, explicit line

Revo currently lists the Crew launch offer at $175 monthly for 200 revenue-agent minutes, against a $350 list price. Its over-allowance FAQ directs customers to upgrade or discuss additional minutes; it does not publish a per-minute excess rate to fill into this comparison.

If you want an AI answering option, use the current Revo Pricing page to confirm scope and capacity. If live receptionists are a requirement, do not assume Revo supplies that human service. Choose after the provider has explained the workflow and complete bill, not from an unsupported claim of equivalence or savings.

Common questions

Make the next step clear.

Resolve the details that matter to your team and callers.

Does “no overage fees” mean the monthly bill stops at $30?

No. The offer has a monthly base and usage charges. Confirm the applicable rate schedule and any additional items in the proposal.

Is the published rate $1.60–$1.95 per second?

No. It is per minute, with usage measured in one-second increments. A spreadsheet must convert seconds to minutes before applying a per-minute rate.

Can I determine my exact rate from the public range?

The reviewed page does not publish bracket thresholds or the complete calculation function. Request the rate schedule and an itemized scenario for your account.
