Triage urgent calls
Emergency Call Answering Service: Triage Urgent Calls
An emergency call answering service is only useful if it knows what your business treats as an emergency. Without clear rules, every late call gets the same treatment, and the urgent ones wait with the routine ones.

Define what counts as an emergency
Write your list before you choose any service. For most home service businesses, the short list looks like this:
- No heat or no cooling in extreme weather, or for a household with vulnerable people.
- An active leak or a burst pipe that is damaging the home.
- No power to the home or a part of it, or a burning smell from equipment.
- A lockout or a security problem the caller cannot wait on.
Everything else, such as a dripping faucet, a tune-up or a quote request, is routine. Routine calls get booked into the next open slot.
How urgent calls should be handled
Every urgent call should follow the same three steps: capture, triage, act. Capture means the name, address, callback number and what is happening right now. Triage means checking the problem against your list, and act means a transfer to the person on call or a fast callback, depending on your rules.
If the caller is in danger, such as a gas smell or sparking wires, the script should tell them to leave and call emergency services first.
What not to promise
An emergency answering service should never promise an arrival time it cannot control. The safer script confirms that the request is logged as urgent, says who will call back, and stops there. Your on-call technician sets the arrival time.
Where Revo fits
Revo answers the calls you forward to it, 24/7, and follows the script, hours and rules you give it. It collects the details, sends SMS follow-up and logs a call summary on your dashboard. On Crew and Fleet it can transfer urgent calls to your team. Revo does not dispatch technicians. Plans start from $87.50/mo at launch. See Revo's plans
