Call routing

Call routing rules for a home service business

Call routing directs incoming calls according to defined criteria. For a service business, the practical question is which requests should reach which person or answering path, and what happens if that path is unavailable.

01 / Call routing

Separate the route from the conversation.

Routing chooses a destination. Intake collects information, and a transfer hands an active call to another recipient. These decisions can work together, but a provider offering one does not automatically offer every advanced routing method.

Begin with the destinations your team can actually maintain. An office, approved answering path and available on-call recipient need clear roles. Avoid routing a caller to a person simply because a number exists; the destination must be appropriate for the request and current availability.

02 / Call routing

Write conditions and exceptions plainly.

Define the rules your business needs: office hours, an unanswered line or a request requiring a person. Keep the caller’s stated urgency separate from a verified dispatch decision. Out-of-area or unsupported requests need an honest response rather than a routing promise.

For each rule, specify a fallback. An unavailable recipient, busy line or closed office should lead to a supported message or callback process. Avoid circular routes between the business phone and answering destination; test the actual path instead of assuming the configuration is safe.

03 / Call routing

Match the rules to the supported Revo setup.

Revo publishes answering coverage and higher-tier transfers. Its feature labels do not establish skill-based queues, an ACD or every form of automated routing. Confirm which conditions and destinations the current phone and Revo setup supports.

Test the supported paths with authorized participants. Review whether the caller receives accurate expectations and the team receives the information needed to respond. Keep routing rules current when hours, staff availability or phone providers change.

Common questions

Make the next step clear.

Resolve the details that matter to your team and callers.

Does call routing qualify a service request?

Routing selects a destination. Qualification applies the business’s acceptance rules to information gathered from the caller; it is a separate decision.

Does Revo provide advanced ACD routing?

Do not infer that from answering or transfer labels. Confirm the exact supported routing arrangement directly.

Give each request a reachable destination.
