Business number and answering service: buy the right package

A business number, a phone workspace and an answering service solve different problems. A residential service office may need all three, or it may already have a suitable number and carrier. Compare the complete purchase route before replacing a working phone arrangement to obtain one reception feature.

Updated · Published by Revo

Published by Revo, a competing AI answering provider. This documentary buying guide uses public supplier material reviewed October 30, 2026. We did not purchase these services, port a number or conduct test calls. The comparison identifies prerequisites and open questions, not a measured ranking or a complete quote.

Start with what your office already owns

For a fictional two-person plumbing office, the public number may already be printed on vehicles and used by returning customers. The first question is whether the office needs a new team phone workspace or only coverage when its people cannot answer.

Write down the current carrier, account administrator, public number, devices and authorized routing controls. Separately record any need for employees to make calls, share an inbox or receive calls simultaneously. These are purchasing requirements, not assumed features of an answering subscription.

Choose one route to investigate first:

  • Keep the phone arrangement and add reception: establish a supported connection and the handling work the receptionist may perform.
  • Buy a phone platform with reception: establish both the employee-phone requirements and the autonomous-answering requirements.
  • Start with a new number: establish the number service and who controls it before advertising it to customers.

Compare actual purchase routes, not just product names

Offer reviewedDocumented purchase boundaryWhat the complete proposal must resolve
Quo with SonaSona operates inside Quo; its FAQ requires a paid Quo plan to purchase the add-on. Quo pricing lists a new or ported local or toll-free number per user.Required users, number allocation, current Sona allowance and additional usage, and the applicable phone-plan charges
GoTo Connect with AI ReceptionistThe current plan page offers Phone System + AI Receptionist and CX Complete, with AIR credits.Phone users and numbers, the selected package, credit consumption and extra credits; a credit count is not a dollar total
Aircall AI Voice AgentsCurrent pricing describes an agent route with or without a phone system, alongside broader phone-workspace products.Which route the quote covers, any required accounts or seats, number arrangement, agent usage and applicable telephony
Revo reception on a compatible connectionEvaluate the published incoming AI answering, intake, supported booking and summaries for the selected plan.Connection compatibility, required plan, usage and office follow-up; this guide does not establish number supply, porting or a phone workspace

Do not import a minimum from one product into another. Aircall's employee-phone product and its agent route need separate assessment. Equally, a Sona allowance shown within a Quo plan is not evidence that someone can buy the same arrangement without the underlying Quo service.

Build one complete package record

Copy this record for every shortlisted route. Keep an unanswered field visible rather than filling it from a different product or an old rate card.

Purchasing fieldWritten answer or evidence to obtain
Product and account prerequisitesExact phone platform, agent product, plan and authorized account owner
Employee accessRequired users or seats, who needs them and what each may do
Public numberNew, retained or ported; account controlling it; any eligibility or separate charge
Reception usageUnit, allowance, reset period, additional usage and excluded activities
TelephonyApplicable inbound, toll-free, external-transfer and other phone charges
Connected workSupported calendar or system, permissions and actual result created
Remaining office workPerson responsible for messages, unanswered questions and unavailable-recipient cases
ExitCancellation process, number-control documents and unresolved requests to retain

Aircall's agent-billing help separates agent participation from telephony and describes exceptions, while its pricing page includes native numbers and business telephony in its offer description. Obtain the applicable written arrangement; this guide does not resolve those statements into a universal all-in tariff.

Do not add minutes, calls and credits together. Estimate the same workload under each supplier's actual unit and rules.

Inspect the handoff before changing the public number

Use the same fictional estimate inquiry with each supplier. The caller gives an address, asks whether the business serves it and requests a visit. Ask the supplier to show the resulting message, requested time or supported calendar entry. Then ask what happens when the caller needs a person who is unavailable.

Keep employee calling and automated reception separate in the demonstration. A successful outbound call from a staff app does not prove that the receptionist can book an appointment. A captured preferred date does not prove that a technician accepted the work.

If the route requires moving a number, first identify the account and authorization needed to retain control. Use the separate porting guide for migration planning. This comparison does not establish that a number is portable, authorize a transfer or promise uninterrupted service.

Choose the narrowest package that meets the requirement

Keeping an existing carrier may fit an office that needs supported incoming reception rather than a replacement phone workspace. A platform package may fit an office that also needs the documented employee-phone functions. Confirm compatibility and full terms in either case; neither route is automatically cheaper or easier.

Revo belongs in the reception comparison only within its verified scope. If a supplied number, a particular phone workspace or another unverified capability is mandatory, a different offer may fit better. Do not treat a pricing CTA as proof of functional equivalence.

Frequently asked questions

Is a business number the same as an answering service?

No. Establish who provides the number and connection separately from who handles incoming conversations and what happens afterward.

Does an included AI allowance make the whole package free?

No. Check the required underlying account, users, number arrangement, additional usage and applicable charges.

Does this guide establish that Revo supplies or ports numbers?

No. Evaluate supported reception and connection requirements directly. Number provisioning and porting are not established here.
