Phone number porting

Phone number porting vs forwarding for your business

Phone number porting moves a number from one carrier to another. Call forwarding routes incoming calls while the original service remains in place. Choose the change you actually need before starting a transfer.

Check whether a provider change is necessary.

An answering workflow and a phone-provider migration are separate projects. If the goal is to answer calls your team cannot take, ask Revo which connection method supports the existing number. Do not assume that its service requires porting or that Revo is a number-porting provider.

If you also intend to change carriers, ask the receiving provider whether the number and service are eligible. Check which calling, messaging and voicemail functions need to remain available. Keep that carrier decision separate from the answering script and intake rules.

Prepare the authorized transfer information.

A carrier can require account details and a transfer PIN to validate a number transfer. T-Mobile’s official guidance, for example, identifies the account number, billing information and transfer authorization. Requirements vary; obtain the receiving provider’s current list for the business account.

Have the authorized account owner manage the transfer details. Give required information through the provider’s approved process; do not put transfer PINs in public documents or customer intake scripts. Check the submitted details for accuracy before agreeing to a transfer date.

Verify continuity before closing the old arrangement.

T-Mobile instructs customers to keep the old account active until the port completes. Ask the receiving carrier about the transition, status checks and any remaining services on the old account. Do not assume a timing estimate from one carrier applies to every number transfer.

After the provider confirms completion, test inbound and outbound calls, messaging where used and voicemail. Review forwarding and the supported Revo connection again: a route configured at the old carrier may need a new setup. Confirm the final account status with the carrier rather than treating a successful call as proof that every old service ended.

Common questions

Make the next step clear.

Resolve the details that matter to your team and callers.

Does using Revo require porting my number?

Confirm the supported connection for your number directly with Revo. Porting and forwarding are different changes; this guide does not establish a Revo porting service.

Should I cancel the old account before the transfer?

Follow the receiving carrier’s instructions. T-Mobile’s porting guidance says the old account must remain active until its transfer is complete.

Plan a provider change separately from answering coverage.
