Google Voice auto attendant cost: choose the account model

A solo contractor and an office with several licensed users need different Google Voice cost calculations. Google currently offers an auto attendant in Standard standalone as well as eligible Workspace editions. Check which account and subscription you are buying before treating a price card as your total phone budget.

Separate a personal standalone account from an organization.

Google’s subscription comparison, reviewed October 22, 2026, lists Basic at $0, standalone Starter at $10 per month and standalone Standard at $20 per month. These US single-user options use a personal Gmail account. Basic and Starter do not include auto attendants; standalone Standard does.

For an organization, Voice is an add-on to a paid Google Workspace subscription. The published Voice charges are Starter $10, Standard $20 and Premier $30 per licensed user per month. Auto attendants are included in Standard and Premier, not Starter. Workspace subscription charges are additional.

Keep introductory pricing separate from ongoing cost.

On October 22, 2026, Google’s product page displayed standalone Standard at $10 per month for six months, returning to $20 monthly afterward. This introductory offer is different from the Workspace Standard rate of $20 per user per month. Confirm offer eligibility and checkout terms for the account you will actually use.

For budgeting, keep an introductory line and a normal recurring line. The examples below assume exactly one standalone subscriber or exactly three licensed Workspace Voice users. They calculate Voice subscription charges only; they exclude Workspace, taxes, applicable calling charges, equipment and implementation work. They are not quotes for your business.

Assign the menu setup and maintenance work.

Google’s organization setup guide applies to Voice Standard and Premier and requires the Google Voice Admin role. It describes greetings, caller choices, business hours and destinations. This is organization administration guidance; do not assume its Admin console procedure is the standalone account setup.

For a plumbing office, write the intended paths before setup: existing appointment, new service request and office information. Name who maintains the prompts and who answers each destination. Test the closed-office path and the unavailable-recipient outcome with authorized participants. A correctly played menu is not evidence that somebody received or acted on the request.

Budget for the conversation after the menu.

A menu offers choices and routes the call. Do not treat the auto attendant label as proof that it can discuss a repair, apply your acceptance rules or confirm an appointment conversationally. Decide who performs those tasks after the route: office staff, an approved answering arrangement or a separate supported workflow.

Before buying, follow one realistic request end to end. Ask where an unanswered call ends, who receives the resulting record and who confirms the next step with the customer. Add your own staff time for editing, checking and following up to the budget. Compare that complete operating scope with any alternative rather than comparing a menu subscription with a fully staffed conversation.

Common questions

Make the next step clear.

Resolve the details that matter to your team and callers.

Do all Google Voice auto attendants require Google Workspace?

No. Google lists auto attendants for its single-user Standard standalone plan. Organization deployments use eligible Voice add-ons with paid Workspace; confirm the appropriate account model.

Is the $10 Standard offer the ongoing Workspace Standard price?

No. The October 22, 2026 product page showed a six-month standalone Standard offer that returns to $20 monthly. Workspace Standard was listed separately at $20 per licensed user per month.

Does the auto attendant itself confirm service appointments?

The documented feature plays messages and routes callers through options. Do not assume it performs a service-request conversation or booking; identify the supported destination and person or workflow responsible for confirmation.

Price the correct subscription, its renewal rate and the work after routing.
