24/7 live receptionist services: compare human coverage, hours and limits
If you need a person to answer at midnight, start with the human coverage schedule. A service can keep its phone system running all night while switching callers to automation, voicemail or a different reception team. The buying question is who conducts the conversation at the hour your customers call, in the language they need, with permission to complete the required task.

PATLive, ReceptionHQ, Ruby and AnswerConnect publish around-the-clock human answering offers. Their documented staffing and language arrangements differ. Davinci illustrates why a service with live receptionists and 24-hour automated answering should not automatically enter the same shortlist.

Availability is provider-advertised, not measured uptime; no test calls or universal ranking are implied. Unknown terms below need written confirmation.
Human coverage comparison
“24/7” in this table means the provider advertises human answering throughout the week. Task permissions and holiday arrangements still belong in the service agreement.
| Service reviewed | Nights | Weekends | Holidays | Documented staffing geography | Night task scope and unresolved terms |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PATLive live receptionists | Human coverage advertised | Included in advertised coverage | Explicitly included | US-based receptionists | Booking, rescheduling and cancellation advertised 24/7; verify your software and permitted actions. Scheduling source |
| ReceptionHQ live answering / MyDiary | Human coverage advertised | Advertised | Federal holidays advertised | US team 5am–7pm MST; Australia overnight | Appointment tasks depend on MyDiary scope; confirm overnight access. Service and FAQ |
| Ruby live virtual receptionists | Human coverage advertised | Within 24/7 claim | Within 24/7 claim; obtain named-holiday confirmation | Not established here | Scheduling and lead capture listed; get night-specific task authorization. Live receptionist service |
| AnswerConnect answering service | Human coverage advertised | Within 24/7 claim | Within 24/7 claim; obtain named-holiday confirmation | Not established here | Lead capture, urgent transfers and common questions listed; confirm your night workflow. Answering service |
| Davinci live receptionist service | Outside weekday live window: automated attendant | No weekend human coverage established by this FAQ | No holiday human schedule established | Not established here | FAQ lists live hours Monday–Friday, 8am–8pm “EST”; automated answering outside those hours. Receptionist FAQ |
Davinci's wording uses “EST.” Ask whether its operational schedule follows Eastern daylight time during the relevant months or a fixed standard-time offset. Record the answer against an actual date. Its after-hours system can route calls or offer voicemail, but that does not establish a human receptionist conversation at that hour. It belongs outside an all-hours-human shortlist unless a separately documented offering meets your requirement.
Language coverage and off-hours costs
Treat language availability as its own schedule. A bilingual option on an account does not necessarily cover every overnight call.
| Service | Documented language scope | Surcharge or unresolved commercial term |
|---|---|---|
| PATLive | English 24/7; Spanish 8am–10pm ET, 365 days a year | Spanish included without an additional language fee; request any night/holiday billing terms in writing. Bilingual service |
| ReceptionHQ | Overnight English; US bilingual team 5am–7pm MST except Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day | Surcharge outside weekday 5am–7pm and on federal holidays; bilingual weekends/holidays also subject to off-hours charges. Obtain amount and applicable dates. FAQ |
| Ruby | English and Spanish advertised around the clock | Ask for language, holiday and task-specific charges in the selected plan. Bilingual coverage |
| AnswerConnect | Language-specific hours not established by the reviewed answering page | Page includes 24/7 service in every plan; obtain itemized terms for your requested workflow. Plan scope |
| Davinci | Language-specific hours unresolved in the reviewed FAQ | First establish whether any proposed service meets your required human hours. FAQ |
For ReceptionHQ, confirm how “MST” maps to your location on both summer and winter dates. Do not convert that label to another zone from memory. The quote should specify the timezone or offset used to determine charges.
A US business can be served by a human team in another country. Decide separately whether your requirement concerns the person's location, the language of the conversation, the hours covered or data-access terms. Eliminating candidates on an unstated assumption makes the comparison less useful.
Three acceptance cards to complete before forwarding customer calls
These are proposed buyer tests, not completed provider evaluations. Agree on an authorized test with each shortlisted service. Use a fictional customer and a task permitted by the proposed package. Leave observed results blank until the test takes place.
| Card | Night call | Holiday call | No-answer handoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| Declared date, local time and timezone | ___ | ___; holiday name: ___ | ___ |
| Person/service expected to answer | ___ | ___ | ___ |
| Required language | ___ | ___ | ___ |
| Task allowed in the written scope | ___ | ___ | Attempt transfer, then agreed fallback: ___ |
| Staffing-location requirement, if any | ___ | ___ | ___ |
| Quoted surcharge and billing unit | ___ | ___ | ___ |
| Written evidence / agreement reference | ___ | ___ | ___ |
| Observed result | ___ | ___ | ___ |
| Unresolved issue and owner | ___ | ___ | ___ |
Night call: Choose an hour outside your office schedule, not just five minutes after closing. Ask the receptionist to perform the exact permitted action, such as capturing an inquiry or making an authorized booking. A friendly conversation alone does not demonstrate task completion.
Holiday call: Use a specific holiday that matters to your business. If testing on that date is not practical before purchase, retain the contractual answer as untested evidence and schedule a later authorized check. Do not mark a weekday demonstration as a holiday pass.
No-answer handoff: Arrange for the intended recipient not to answer. Check what the caller hears next and where the unresolved request goes. Do not confuse an attempted transfer with someone accepting responsibility for the work.
A failed card should identify the missing requirement: person, time, language, task, fallback or cost. That lets you ask for a narrower fix instead of accepting a vague assurance that the service is available all day.
Choose the service that meets the required call, not the longest feature list
Make overnight human conversation a pass/fail requirement if that is what your customers need. Then filter by language hours, permitted tasks and location constraints. Compare commercial terms only among the candidates still eligible.
For billing detail, use the separate PATLive pricing review and ReceptionHQ pricing review. Keep this decision focused on who will answer and what that person can do.
Revo is an AI answering service, not a staffed human reception provider. If you are still deciding whether every call needs a person, compare AI answering with a live receptionist. If AI handling could fit part of your coverage, review Revo’s service and ask which plan and configuration support your required next step.
