AI receptionist alternatives for home service businesses

Choose an answering service by the booking record it creates, who receives a handoff and how usage is billed. Revo, Avoca, Goodcall, Sameday, Smith.ai, Ruby and Rosie cover different needs. Published by Revo; primary-source documentation checked October 21, 2026. This is a documented shortlist, not a performance ranking or hands-on test.

Avoca: job records and CSR handoff

Avoca documents inbound answering and scheduling. Its ServiceTitan integration page describes creating job records with customer details, service information and call notes. That is a named field-service workflow, rather than evidence that every calendar or CRM uses the same integration.

Its inbound product describes a contextual handoff to a CSR. Separate offerings can include human coverage, so confirm exactly who receives a transferred call and which products are included in the quote. A universal billing unit was not verified in the official pages reviewed; request written pricing and implementation terms.

Goodcall: calendar workflows and customer-based billing

Goodcall’s product documentation describes calendar booking, CRM updates, recordings and transcripts, with Google Calendar and HighLevel among its examples. It also describes transferring calls to the business. Check the supported calendar, recipient and fallback; a calendar connection does not prove a native connection to every field-service platform.

Its pricing defines a unique customer by phone number within the month, rather than using conversation minutes as the billing unit. Allowances and additional-customer terms vary by plan. Confirm the tool allowance and supported operations needed for your workflow instead of comparing that customer allowance directly with another provider’s minutes.

Revo: answering plans with tier-specific connections

Revo’s published plans include round-the-clock answering, appointment booking, your own script and rules, and a dashboard with call summaries. Crew and Fleet add transfers to your team, field-service software connections, recordings and transcripts. Those additional features are excluded from Solo; do not treat the higher-tier list as a description of every Revo plan.

The plans include monthly minute allowances. Confirm additional-minute terms and Launch Offer conditions directly. The published field-service connection label does not establish a native connection to a particular named platform or its exact booking actions. Likewise, a transfer feature does not establish a warm-transfer method or vendor-provided live receptionists.

Sameday: field-service scheduling and escalation

Sameday positions its AI CSR around home-service calls, appointment booking and escalation to the business’s people. Its official integration pages document scheduling and customer-data workflows with ServiceTitan and Jobber. Ask the provider to identify the operations available for your specific software account and plan.

The current pricing page lists starting minute allowances. Use that pricing evidence rather than interpreting conflicting unmetered language in comparison articles as a universal plan promise. Confirm the current overage terms and any language or integration requirements. Escalation to your staff is a different arrangement from a receptionist supplied by the provider.

Smith.ai: AI answering and live-agent options

Smith.ai’s AI product documents appointment scheduling, lead qualification, recordings, summaries and context-preserving transfers. Its published scheduling examples include Calendly. Confirm the exact calendar or field-service workflow rather than applying a broad integration count to every package.

Smith.ai’s current AI product page lists a Free plan at $0 per month with 25 calls per month and $3 per additional call on that plan. Its FAQ says overages are off by default and require authorization. Paid AI plans and staffed add-ons have separate terms; this is not the $300 human-first receptionist package.

Its AI pricing uses call-based allowances or rates. The product also distinguishes live-agent involvement and hybrid arrangements from routing to your own team. Charges and conditions depend on the type of escalation and chosen arrangement. Request those terms explicitly; access to vendor-staffed reception and a transfer to your employee are not interchangeable features.

Ruby: live receptionist minutes rather than an AI-only plan

Ruby’s published receptionist offer begins at $250 per month for 50 minutes. Its dedicated pricing page separates receptionist plans from managed chat and says receptionist plans share the feature set. A live receptionist conversation is a different service model from an AI-only answer.

Ruby may fit better when your requirement is a person handling intake and scheduling. Ask it to demonstrate your booking destination and clarify the work, coverage and billing rules in your proposal. A 50-minute allowance does not establish how many jobs will be booked.

Rosie: message taking with higher-tier booking and transfers

Rosie’s pricing page lists Professional at $49 per month with 250 minutes and appointment links sent by text. Scale is $149 with 1,000 minutes and lists direct calendar booking, warm transfers and live transfers. Growth is $299 with 2,000 minutes and adds a sequence of transfer destinations.

Professional may fit a message-taking workflow that sends a booking link. If direct calendar booking or a team transfer is required, compare the applicable higher plan and confirm the supported calendar and no-answer behavior. Sending a link is not the same output as a confirmed calendar booking.

Three differences that change the shortlist

A calendar event, a captured time request and a job record in field-service software are different outputs. Ask each shortlisted provider to show the record it creates and which details reach the person responsible for the work. A software name on a product page is a starting point, not proof of every operation your team needs.

Compare who answers a handoff and how usage is measured separately. Your employee, a vendor receptionist and an unavailable recipient require different fallbacks. A minute, a call and a distinct-customer allowance are also different units; use your call records and the current written terms rather than treating their included quantities as equivalent.

09 / Provider comparison

Ask for the same demonstration from each provider

Give each shortlisted provider the same approved business requirements and ask it to demonstrate four situations: a routine estimate request, an existing customer changing a booking, a request outside the service area and a transfer recipient who is unavailable. These are proposed evaluation scenarios, not tests Revo has conducted on the listed providers.

Record the information captured, the system where it appeared and the next step assigned to your team. Keep service acceptance, diagnosis, estimates and dispatch under your business’s rules. Use the existing selection and booking guides to prepare those requirements; this comparison contributes provider-specific documentation rather than replacing that planning work.

10 / Provider comparison

Use the same buying method, including reasons to choose another option.

Build the shortlist from requirements before comparing the monthly amount. If a human must conduct every conversation, evaluate Ruby’s live receptionist service or Smith.ai’s applicable staffed arrangement. If a named ServiceTitan job workflow is essential, examine the documented Avoca and Sameday operations. Those are requirement-based choices, not claims that another option performs worse.

For Revo, confirm the selected plan and supported booking action first. Solo’s price does not buy Crew/Fleet features. Give every finalist the same sample request and unavailable-contact case, then compare the records and quote supplied. This page reports published documentation; it does not report test scores, booking rates or customer outcomes.

Common questions

Make the next step clear.

Resolve the details that matter to your team and callers.

Do all AI receptionists connect to the same field-service software?

No. Compare the named integration and its documented operations. Verify the exact plan, software account and booking actions with the provider; a general calendar or integration claim is not evidence of every field-service workflow.

Does human handoff mean a receptionist supplied by the vendor?

Not necessarily. A transfer to your team and access to a provider’s live receptionist are different arrangements. Confirm who answers, the fallback and any human-involvement charges.

Which alternative is best for my company?

The documentation supports a shortlist, not a universal winner. Choose against your required booking destination, coverage, handoff and written billing terms, then request a demonstration of your actual requirements.

Choose the plan that supports your actual call workflow.
